Between 1478 and 1480 a pestilence hit Villafranca and its citizens built a church to thank San Rocco who had protected and saved them and to implore to be able to overcome other diseases.
The church is consecrated also to San Sebastiano, who was martyred by the emperor Diocletian in the 3rd century A.D.
Externally, the oratory is characterized by numerous sixteenth-century frescos of the school of the Morone: Jesus’ Crucifixion with the Menagerie, San Rocco, and the Madonna della Misericordia on the background.
Inside there are numerous sixteenth-century frescos realized by a studio from Verona area: the Annunciation, the Escape to Egypt with San Rocco and the Madonna della Misericordia.
Besides it is possible to admire the statues of San Rocco (1700) and San Sebastiano (more recent) as well as a precious wooden statue realized in the 15th century, which represents the Madonna in Trono con il Bambino (Virgin on Throne with Child).
