Tamburino Sardo’s (Little Sardinian Drummer) house is about 100 metres away from the monument to the Grenadier Forces from Sardinia. The façade bears an inscription reminding the young boy’s deeds, who acted as a hero and whose sacrifice was narrated by Edmondo De’ Amicis in his novel Cuore.
The story tells about a young boy who had joint the Piemontese Army and whose duty was to deliver a message containing a request for help to the town of Villafranca.
The young boy managed to sneak out of the house where his company was hidden, but while he was running towards Villafranca he got wounded by the enemy. Despite the bleeding and the harsh pain, the young boy managed to reach Villafranca and do his duty but, sadly enough, lost his life.
His captain, moved by the young boy’s strength, said: “I’m just a captain, you are a hero.”
